Description

Product Description

Polypropylene reinforced fiber anti-corrosion tape is a high-performance pipe wrapping tape manufactured by coating a butyl rubber modified asphalt adhesive onto a unique net-like polypropylene fiber backing. This reinforced structure provides significantly higher tensile strength (≥60 MPa) and impact resistance compared to conventional tapes.

The tape is typically used with an anti-corrosion primer to enhance adhesion and sealing performance. It can be applied as a standalone anti-corrosion system for buried pipelines or as an outer protective wrap for visco-elastic systems, providing additional mechanical protection for exposed valves, flanges, and fittings.

Key Features & Applications

  • Fiber-reinforced backing — delivers superior tensile strength and puncture resistance
  • Cold application — no heating required, ready for backfilling immediately after wrapping
  • Strong adhesion when used with primer
  • UV resistant, aging resistant, and high compressive strength
  • Ideal for oil & gas pipelines, water transmission lines, industrial piping systems, and as a protective outer wrap for visco-elastic tape

System Composition

The standard anti-corrosion system consists of anti-corrosion primer (applied directly to the steel pipe) + polypropylene reinforced fiber tape. For enhanced mechanical protection over visco-elastic systems, the tape can be wrapped directly over the visco-elastic tape layer.

Polypropylene fiber-reinforced adhesive tape performance index:

The tensile strength ≥18
Nominal fracture strain(%) ≥200
Peeling strength(N/cm) ≥25
Base film dielectric strength(MV/m) ≥30
Volume resistivity(Ω·m) ≥1×10¹²
Heat-proof aging(%) ≥75
Moisture absorption(%) ≤0.20
Water-vapor permeability(mg/[24h·cm²]) ≤0.25

Installation Guide & Precautions

Installation Methods

The polypropylene reinforced fiber tape can be applied by manual wrapping or mechanical wrapping machine. Due to its high tensile strength, a mechanical wrapper is recommended for large-diameter pipelines to ensure consistent tension and avoid wrinkling.

Quick Installation Steps (as standalone system)

  1. Surface preparation: Remove rust to Sa2.5 (blasting) or St3 (manual).
  2. Primer application: Apply anti-corrosion primer evenly on the prepared steel surface.
  3. Tape wrapping: Wind the tape spirally with 50-55% overlap, maintaining uniform tension.
  4. Inspection: Check for smooth overlap edges, no bubbles, wrinkles, or lifted ends.

Quick Installation Steps (as outer wrap for visco-elastic tape)

  1. Apply visco-elastic tape to the flange, valve, or irregular surface following standard procedures.
  2. Immediately wrap the polypropylene reinforced fiber tape over the visco-elastic tape with 50-55% overlap.
  3. Maintain uniform tension during wrapping to ensure tight contact and mechanical protection.
  4. Press the tape ends firmly to prevent lifting.

Key Reminders

  • Backfilling can be done immediately after wrapping — no curing time required.
  • For mechanized wrapping, avoid excessive tension which may stretch or damage the fiber backing.
  • When used as an outer wrap, ensure the underlying visco-elastic tape is properly applied without gaps.
  • Store in a dry, cool place between -10°C and 35°C, away from direct sunlight and heat sources.
