Product Description

Visco-Elastic Anti-Corrosion Tape is a corrosion protection product specifically designed for buried pipelines and irregularly shaped equipment such as flanges, valves, and pumps. Based on advanced polyisobutylene (PIB) technology, the tape offers self-healing properties, cold flow characteristics, and a non-curing nature, ensuring permanent and reliable protection. Its performance meets rigorous international standards including ISO 21809-3 and NACE SP0109.

System Composition

For optimal performance on irregular surfaces, the visco-elastic tape should be used together with Visco-Elastic Paste:

  • Visco-Elastic Paste — fills cavities, bolt recesses, and sharp angles to create a smooth surface, preventing bridging or voids during tape wrapping
  • Visco-Elastic Tape — provides the main corrosion barrier with self-healing, cold-flow properties
  • Outer wrap (optional) — aluminum foil or polypropylene tape for additional mechanical protection and UV shielding

Installation Guide & Precautions

Installation Method

The Visco-Elastic Tape is applied by manual wrapping. Unlike heat shrink sleeves, no heating or special equipment is required. The tape is self-adhesive and conforms to the substrate through hand pressure.

Quick Installation Steps (Over Visco-Elastic Paste)

  1. Surface preparation: Clean the steel surface to St2 grade (hand tool cleaning). No sandblasting is required.
  2. Apply paste: Fill all cavities, bolt recesses, and sharp corners with Visco-Elastic Paste. Press firmly and smooth to create a level surface.
  3. Wrap tape: Remove the release liner. Wrap the tape spirally over the paste with 55% minimum overlap. Apply firm hand pressure to ensure intimate contact.
  4. Finish: Press the tape end down firmly. No additional protection is required for buried service, though an outer wrap may be added for mechanical protection.

  • No heating needed — The tape is cold-applied and self-adhesive.
  • Overlap is critical — Minimum 55% overlap ensures complete sealing.
  • Apply firm pressure — Use hand or roller to eliminate trapped air.
  • Compatible with paste — The tape alone works on smooth surfaces; always use paste on irregular shapes (flanges, valves, fittings).
  • Store in a dry, cool place below 35°C, away from direct sunlight and heat sources.
